Our History

While the name Performance Foodservice has only been around since 2009, the foundations of our company go back much further. Each of our local operating companies has a unique history to share, many of which can be traced back to the 1800's.

However, the Performance Foodservice that we know today started to take shape in the 1980's under Performance Food Group as several broadline distributors - Pocahontas Foods in Richmond, VA, Caro Foods in Houma, LA and the Kenneth O. Lester Company in Lebanon, TN - merged together to capitalize on synergies and build more buying power. In the coming years, many more food distributors joined the family, stretching our distribution area from Maine to Miami, and securing a spot as a leader in the foodservice industry.

A year after the merger between PFG and Vistar in 2008, Performance Food Group created a name for its broadline division - Performance Foodservice. Today, we serve all 50 states and 41 foreign countries, delivering more than 68,000 foodservice items to more than 41,000 customers. We're still growing. And we're committed to making sure we do everything possible to serve our customers the best we can.
