Lent Inspiration

With Lent comes your big opportunity for seafood sales on Fridays, so it is important you have plenty of delicious options that will appeal to meat-eating consumers. Check out our guide for a wide variety of inspiration, including products spotlights, cooking ideas and even techniques like the perfect deep fry.

So how can you capitalize on the seafood surge during Lent?
  • Develop a craveable new seafood item (or two) for your menu.
Figure out what your consumer base craves, and then translate that into a seafood item. The attributes most commonly cited as being craveable are currently fresh, crunchy, spicy, and salty, and some of the most popular flavors include habanero, sriracha, harissa, wasabi, BBQ, chimichurri, and togarashi.
  • Offer a special and project your inventory needs.
Project their LTO sales to determine how much product you will need for the full 6 week period. Running out of product during Lent can result in a huge loss of sales revenue, as consumers will go elsewhere.
  • Promote, promote, promote. It’s critical that operators get the message out about their Lent items and LTOs both on social media and in-store posters, table tents, and window signs, etc. And don’t forget to call out Alaska on your menu and advertisement where applicable: 94% of consumers say they are more likely to order a seafood item when the word “Alaska” is used as a menu descriptor, according to Datassential.
